Occurrence:

Paraguay, central Brazil and southern Suriname.

Ecology

At altitudes of 150 - 1000 m.

Morphology General habit

Perennial, from rhizomes, glabrous, up to 300 cm, rhizomes up to 15 cm long, 3 cm diam. Leaves emersed, leaf blade elliptic to obovate-lanceolate, 5 - 7 pseudo-pinnate veins, 30 - 80 cm long, 4 - 12 cm wide, translucent markings present as a net-like network, apex pointed, base attenuated, petioles triangular in cross-section, up to 50 cm long, 1.3 cm in diameter, base with sheath up to 13 cm long

Fruit club, 3 - 4-ribbed, slightly winged, without glands, 3 - 4 mm long, 1.5 mm wide, beak end, horizontal, approx. 0.5 mm.

Flowers 4 - 7 cm in diameter, sepals erect, 18 - 35-veined, c. 15 mm long, c. 10 mm wide, veins without papillae, petals spreading, white, not clawed, overlapping, c. 35 mm long, c. 33 mm wide, stamens c. 40, anthers many-sided, c. 3 mm long, filaments c. 3 mm long, carpels numerous
