Ecology
Grows in damp depressions on flooded savannahs. At altitudes of 50 - 400 m.

Perennial, from rhizomes, petioles and stems rough, up to 300 cm, rhizomes 3 cm diam. Leaves emersed, leaf blade ovate, 5 - 9-veined, 9 - 30 cm long, 5 - 15 cm wide, without translucent markings, apex retuse to round-pointed, base cordate, petioles round, furrowed, rough, longer than the leaf blade, 30 - 100 cm long, 5 - 10 mm diameter, base with sheath up to 7 cm long
