    Grows on the floor of flooded forests. From sea level to 500 m.

    Morphology General habit

    Perennial, from short erect rhizomes, glabrous, up to 100 cm, rhizomes up to 7 cm long, 1.5 cm in diameter. Leaves emersed, blades ovate, 7 - 13-veined, 14 - 40 cm long, 6 - 24 cm wide, translucent markings present as a net-like network, apex acuminate, base cordate, petioles round, 20 - 80 cm long, 10 mm diam., base with sheath up to 20 cm long

    Fruit club, 4 - 6-ribbed, glandular, 2.6 - 4.3 mm long, 1 mm wide, glands 3 - 4, round, beak end, horizontal, approx. 0.4 - 1 mm.

    Inflorescence racemes, 1 - 6 whorled, each 7 - 50-flowered, erect, shorter than the leaves, occasionally multiplying, up to 30 cm long, 6 cm wide, rachis triangular in cross-section, pedicels round, up to 30 cm long, 1.3 cm diam, bracts descending, free, lanceolate, coarse, 3 - 6 cm long, 8 mm wide, c. 20-veined, apex pointed, pedicels spread out in flower and bent back in fruit, round, 2 - 4 cm long, 0.5 mm diam. flowers only open for a few hours in the morning, 1.6 - 1.8 cm in diameter, sepals erect, 20 - 26-veined, approx. 10 mm long, ca. 10 mm wide, veins without papillae, petals spreading, white, not clawed, not overlapping, ca. 10 mm long, ca. 6 mm wide, stamens 19 - 24, anthers many-sided, ca. 1 mm long, filaments c. 2 mm long, carpels numerous
