Echinodorus bleherae (Echinodorus bleheri) is a fairly well-known aquarium plant, one of the species of Amazon Echinodorus. Also known by the scientific name Echinodorus paniculatus or by the common name Echinodorus Amazonian. Echinodorus Bleherae is a very hardy but fairly large plant, it is low maintenance, ideal for beginners. Originally Echinodorus bleheri, like all Echinodorus from South America, often grows in wetlands above water. Externally it is very similar to Amazon Echinodorus, but its leaves are wider and can be straight. It can reach a height of 20-60 cm and a mother shrub contains up to 30 leaves! Leaves can be up to 8 cm wide, strong and long-lasting. The developed plant is dark green in color. It flowers in its natural habitat, but flowers are rarely seen in the aquarium. Echinodorus bleheri is a very large plant, which is not recommended for aquariums up to 75 liters. It should also be considered that its large leaves can shade small plants, so you should not plant light-loving plants in its shade, you can use ferns, anubias and not demanding cryptocorynes. Echinodorus Bleher perfectly absorbs organic waste from the water and at the same time saturates the water with oxygen. In good light, if you look closely, you can see photosynthesis: tiny air bubbles streaming to the water surface. Echinodorus Bleheri is an undemanding aquarium plant, does not require special care, is recommended for beginners. Grows well and quickly even in low light, however bright light is recommended for best growth. In good light the plant is healthier and less prone to algae damage. Due to the strength of the leaves, Echinodorus Bleher resists attacks from herbivorous fish and snails well. This plant originates from the tropical regions of South America and therefore prefers a temperature of 24-28 ° C. It easily adapts to different water parameters, both hard and soft. An acid pH is recommended, ideally between 6.5 and 7.5. Since its root system is quite vigorous, gravel with a proportion of 2-5 mm with a layer thickness of at least 5 cm is recommended, and this species will be particularly pleased with a 10 cm layer of soil. Often in an aquarium large Echinodorus plants are planted in clay pots like flowering plants. Echinodorus Bleherae greatly appreciates light, nutrient-rich soil. Ideally, this is a nutritious substrate, but a nutrient pad or clay balls/fertilizer tablets can also be used under the roots. The lack of iron sooner or later affects the color of the leaves. If the leaves of the plant turn yellow, this is a clear sign of iron deficiency in the aquarium. You can additionally apply iron in the form of liquid fertilizer. Echinodorus Bleher reproduces by accidental sprouts on the mother plant, which are carefully removed by hand. Often, the new plant is quite large, and to dress it, you need to remove the entire mother bush from the gravel. The severed plant is planted in the ground in a new location. Since Echinodorus blecher is a very large rosette, it is usually used to create a center or hub of plants in an aquarium.[1]
