Echinodorus Rosé

Echinodorus 'Rosé' is the result of a cross between Echinodorus horemanii 'Rot' and Echinodorus horizontalis. It was bred by Hans Barth in Dessau in 1986 and is therefore one of the oldest Echinodorus hybrids.

Description: medium-sized hybrid, reaches a height of 10-25 cm in the aquarium, a width of 20-40 cm terrestrial plants: Petiole up to 45 cm long, leaf blade is ovate, 25 x 15 cm in size , dark olive green, young leaves are reddish, sometimes with reddish spots. The tip is bluntly pointed; the base is rounded or short. The leaf margin is slightly wavy or flat. Underwater plants: Petiole 5-20 cm long, leaf blade very narrowly elliptic, 10-25 cm long, 2-8 cm wide, from light green to dark olive green, young pink leaves, with or without dark red spots. Has 5-7 veins. The transparent lines are very long in most cases. Inflorescences, protruding above the leaves, drooping, branched, with numerous whorls of flowers and many daughter plants. Whorls of 12-16 flowers approx. 3 cm long, stalk 1.5-7 cm long, bracts 1-2 cm long, pointed. Sepals 8-10 mm long, 4-6 mm wide. Petals 1.8-2 cm wide, 1.5 cm long. Has 19-24 stamens. Nuts are fertile. Culture: An ornamental hybrid in which two colored forms are grown. They are characterized by the absence or presence of attractive dark red spots scattered over the underwater lamina. Powerful specimens of Echinodorus "Rose" (pink) form a loose, spreading rosette. Recommended lighting is medium to intense, open area and nutritious soil. Temperature 22-30 C. Depending on the size of the aquarium, they are planted in the middle zone or in the background. It only reproduces by daughter plants, as it splits into different phenotypes when sown. A similar but smaller plant variety Echinodorus "Oriental" is a mutation that occurs when growing Echinodorus "Rose."[2]
