Occurrence:
Uruguay, northern Argentina, southern Paraguay and southern Brazil.
Ecology
Grows in small rivers with clear water, most frequently in rapids. From sea level to 300 m.

Perennial, from long rhizomes, glabrous, up to 60 cm, rhizomes up to 20 cm long, 5 mm diam. Leaves floating, emersed and submersed, floating leaves elliptic-ovate, 5-veined c. 15 cm long, 4 - 6 cm wide, translucent markings present as lines, apex round, base attenuated, petioles round, 12 - 24 cm long, 3 mm diam, base with sheath up to 13 cm long, emerged leaves lanceolate-elliptic, 3-veined, c. 7 cm long, 1.5 - 2 cm wide, translucent markings present as lines, apex acute, base attenuate, petioles round, 2 - 7 cm long, 2 mm in diam., base with sheath to 1 cm long, submersed leaves linear, 3 - 5 pseudo-pinnate veins, 10 - 33 cm long, 1.5 - 4.5 cm wide, glaucous markings absent or present as lines, apex round, base attenuated, petioles triangular in cross-section, up to 11 cm long, 4 mm in diameter, base with a sheath up to 8 cm long
